The Arts & Letters Club is a social club for Canadian artists to collaborate. Most notably for artists like the Group of Seven. Located in St George’s Hall right in the heart of downtown Toronto, this historic building is so full of character both inside and out. The exterior is all red brick and stone, giving it the iconic feeling of old Toronto. The interior is very elegant, and is full of artwork from its various well known members. Photographing in a space with such historical significance, as well as such beautiful works of art around every corner was a joy!

Kara & Mike were already married, and were looking to host a reception for their guests which would pay homage to who they are as a couple. Both adore Toronto, so with plenty of family coming in from abroad, they were looking for a venue which could give their guests a taste of the city they call home. Since this was the first time both of their extended friends and families would be getting together, they wanted a space which would encourage people to mingle and chat. With plenty of space for dinner, as well as a great area for mingling during cocktail hour the Arts & Letters Club fit their needs well. They also chose to get ready at the venue along with their close family. Here are some of my favourite photos from the day!
I’m always photographing film on wedding days, regardless of how long I’m hired for. This reception was no different (minus the wedding bit). I was focused on capturing candid moments as usual, but I did want to incorporate as much of the space in my photos as I could. I thought that the historic building and art would come out looking great on film. And I was right! Here are some of my favourite film photographs from the day.
If my work resonated with you, and you want your wedding memories captured authentically on film, I would love to chat! You can get in touch here: Contact Me
With all that being said, here is the story of Kara & Mike’s Reception at the Arts & Letters Club, told through images.
